Dylan Tighe @ The Half Moon

Dylan Tighe returns to Cork with a special gig at the Half Moon Theatre on Sunday October 14th at 9.30pm to launch a limited edition gatefold vinyl of his debut album, RECORD.

The songs, delivered with radical honesty, spring from Dylan’s personal history of mental health diagnoses, treatment and experience, and examine the impact of depression on life and love. Fusing melancholic vocal lines with a richly layered sound-world of Hammond organs, stylophones, guitars, synths, samples, clarinets and brass, the 10 tracks of RECORD are intimate snapshots of a past filtered through emotional distress, medication, and a search for meaning.

The 10 songs of RECORD transform doomed love, mental torment, failure and disappointment into hymns to comfort the soul.

The album has been acclaimed as “excellent” by the Irish Times and so far Dylan has performed sessions on RTE TV’s The Works and RTE Radio’s Arena. Further sessions on RTE and TG4 are planned for August/ September

A special limited edition vinyl will be released to coincide with the tour this Autumn.

The Federation of Light

Innocent at Last cover art

The latest supremely talented musicians to crop up on my radar are Cork’s very own The Federation of Light, They produce the kind of  guitar driven, jaunty melodic pop that crawls into your ear and lingers in the memory.

Their track ‘innocent at last’ recently featured in Drop-d’s showcase album Who Dares Wins and its a belter. The leeside trio comprise of Martin, Jerry & Alan and their wish is to musically ‘hit you in the hips’. This they manage in spades and then some. A must listen for fans of inspired indie pop.
